Air Quality
- Air quality impacts are associated with adjustments to hydropower operations at Glen Canyon Dam.
- Identified in the LTEMP scoping are requests to quantify the impacts from any changes in hydroelectric output, including impacts from replacement power resources. Depending on the source of this replacement energy, it could have negative impacts with respect to increased level of nitrous oxides, sulfur oxides, and greenhouse gas emissions.
SRP emissions calculator/tool: used to see how bypassing water during a High Flow Experiment (HFE) can affect air emissions. Because bypassed water does not go through turbines, it does not produce electricity. That electricity has to be produced by thermal plants that emit CO2, NOX, and SOX.* (Credits: Jenika Raub_June 2014)
