On September 20, 2010, John Halliday joins the staff of the Department of the Interior’s Assistant Secretary for Water and Science Anne J. Castle as the Glen Canyon Dam Adaptive Management Program Native American Tribal Liaison. His duty station is Flagstaff, Arizona.
Throughout his career, Halliday has been involved in developing progressive solutions to tribal government challenges. He is experienced in tribal government intergovernmental relations, natural resources, cultural resource protection, and long-range tribal government planning. Prior to joining the Interior family, Halliday served as the Operations Manager for the Muckleshoot Tribe, serving as the top tribal executive serving directly under the tribal council and overseeing some 800 tribal government employees. He was responsible for working collaboratively with other local, state, and federal government agencies to create sound and practical solutions to promote sustainable growth across the community at large while managing an annual budget of approximately $200 million. Previously, Mr. Halliday worked as a tribal liaison for the City of Seattle and the U.S. Department of Commerce, Director of Economic Development for the Muckleshoot Tribe, and CEO of the Snoqualmie Tribe.
A native of the Pacific Northwest, Halliday is a member of the Muckleshoot Tribe and is of Yakama and Warm Springs decent. He is dedicated to the practice of preserving his tribal traditions and is a lifelong traditional dancer and singer. He and wife, Tobi, are relocating to Arizona from Tacoma, Washington.
Halliday received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Montana in 1994. His Master’s in Public Administration in 1996 was also from the University of Montana, where he was a member of the National Political Science Honors Society.
