Summary

Model runs through the Colorado River Flow, Stage, and Sediment (CRFSS) model using 5 days of fluctuating between 11kcfs at night to 19kcfs during the day (modeled after actual releases on July 1, 2016).

In these figures, I standardized off the right axis (stage) so every figure shows 12 feet of vertical profile for each site. Every figure shows a daily fluctuation that is approximately 11k cfs to 19k cfs, but you can see that once you get to the LCR, daily minimum discharges (cfs) start becoming higher and daily maximum discharges (cfs) becomes lower.

Note that there is not a lot of attenuation in terms of discharge (cfs) in the daily fluctuation all the way down to Diamond but there is quite a bit of variation in the daily change of stage (ft) at different points along the river. This variation appears to have more to do with local river morphology than with the idea that daily fluctuations in terms of discharge attenuate as you get further downstream.

There is some focusing and attenuation in terms of ramp rates as the wave travels downstream in that the upramp accelerates while the downramp deccelerates.
